Privacy & data use

How this site and practice handle your information, with a focus on care, minimalism, and consent.

What this notice covers

Formative Solutions is a small, solo practice. This notice explains what information is collected, how it is used, and the choices available about that data.

This page applies to:

  • Messages submitted through the contact form on this site
  • Optional email marketing consent on the contact form
  • Basic technical data collected when visiting the site (e.g., via hosting & analytics)
  • Any AI-powered features explicitly offered on this site

Information collected

Contact form

When the contact form is used, the information entered is sent to the practice via email. This typically includes:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • What you are interested in (e.g., coaching, Agile support, web solutions)
  • The message shared about your context or questions
  • Whether optional email marketing consent was given

Technical data

As with most websites, basic technical information is collected automatically by the hosting platform, such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This is primarily used for security, reliability, and high-level usage understanding.

reCAPTCHA & spam protection

The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA v3 to reduce spam. This service collects certain information about interactions with the site for the purpose of detecting abusive traffic, in line with Google’s own privacy and terms. No extra profiling is added on top of that.

How information is used

Responding to inquiries

Contact form submissions are used to read what has been shared, respond to questions, and determine whether a coaching or consulting engagement might be a good fit.

Email updates (if consented)

If the email marketing consent checkbox is selected on the contact form, the email address may be added to a simple list used for occasional updates about new writing, workshops, or ways to work together. Updates are infrequent and can be opted out of at any time.

Site reliability & security

Hosting and infrastructure providers (such as Cloudflare) may use technical logs to keep the site secure and reliable, detect abuse, and improve performance.

Use of AI tools

AI is used thoughtfully as part of this practice, with clear boundaries around privacy and confidentiality.

On this site

From time to time, AI may be used to power on-site features such as “Ask about this article” prompts or experiment helpers. When these features are used, the content provided is processed by an AI model for the purpose of generating a response. Data is not sold or used to build advertising profiles.

In coaching & client work

AI tools may sometimes assist with structuring ideas, drafting materials, or exploring experiments. Personally identifiable details or sensitive client stories are not shared with AI tools without clear, explicit consent, and content is anonymized or generalized wherever possible.

Your choice

If there is ever a plan to use AI more directly in the context of a specific engagement, that will be named clearly, and there will always be an option to opt out of AI-assisted workflows.

Sharing of information

The aim is to keep data sharing minimal and purpose-driven.

Information may be shared with:

  • Email and infrastructure providers such as Resend and Cloudflare, solely for sending emails and operating this website.
  • Analytics or monitoring tools, if in use, to understand aggregate usage and ensure the site is functioning well.

Information is not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

Data retention & your choices

Retention

Contact emails and related notes may be retained as part of normal business records. Email marketing lists, if used, are maintained until someone unsubscribes or the list is cleaned.

Opting out of updates

If consent has been given to email updates and that changes later, simply unsubscribe via any update email or send a note asking to be removed.

Access or deletion

If there are questions about what information is held, or if a request is made for certain data to be updated or deleted where feasible, get in touch using the contact form.

Questions

If anything in this notice is unclear, or if there are concerns about how information is handled, a conversation is welcome.

Use the contact form to ask questions about privacy or data use.
